Liverpool V West Brom FA Cup Preview: Simon Mignolet Back Between The Sticks For Liverpool

sbobet8888 Liverpool are looking to recover from a disappointing defeat at Swansea City which ended an 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

This loss came just over a week after they became the first side to beat table-toppers Manchester City in domestic football this season, highlighting the unpredictability which remains a feature of modern day Liverpool FC.

Going into this FA Cup Fourth Round tie against West Bromwich Albion, Jurgen Klopp will be looking to embark on another unbeaten run which he will hope contains more wins than it does draws.

The club are yet to win a trophy under the German’s watch, and the FA Cup is their best chance of remedying that this season. The league title is out of reach, they were knocked out of the League Cup early on, and face a tough task in the Champions League having lost their best player, Philippe Coutinho, to Barcelona.

West Brom held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Anfield in December when the two met in the league, and the Baggies will be hoping to go one better and snatch a goal against Klopp’s side this time around.

Alan Pardew will be concerned that his side remain in the Premier League relegation zone, and his approach to this cup competition could either provide a platform to push on in the league, or an unwelcome distraction.

Manager musings

Pardew’s recent comments suggest that it could be the latter, but though he looks set to prioritise the league fixtures the cup game could give fringe players a chance to shine and maybe help change the side’s fortunes in the league going forward.

“We play Liverpool away and Man City away in four days,” he said. “If you’re asking me which one is more important to us, it’s the Man City game.

“But I have vast experience in the FA Cup and know it can give you great momentum so we’ll be going to Liverpool looking to do ourselves justice, that’s for sure.” sbobet8888

Klopp, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from both the disappointing result last week, and the 0-0 draw against West Brom last month.

“We played a few weeks ago against West Brom and they have developed since then,” he said.

“Mainly we have had good games in last few months, but that game was not too good, and the last game was not too good.

“There are no reasons to think about big rotation, but we may change one or two things, not because of the competition, but because one or two players didn't play so much in the last few weeks.”

Team news

Liverpool made just one change for their last game against Swansea, but could switch things up for this cup tie with half an eye on the Premier League game against Huddersfield on Tuesday.

Klopp confirmed that Adam Lallana and Ragnar Klavan will both miss out, while he has Jordan Henderson and Alberto Moreno back in full training. Simon Mignolet will return in goal for the cups with Loris Karius now first choice in the league.

Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings will also be expecting to feature, with the former subject to interest from abroad during this transfer window as he looks for regular playing time ahead of the World Cup.

James McClean could come back into the West Brom side if he recovers from an illness, while Jake Livermore and Gareth McAuley could also return.

It remains to be seen whether Pardew will make wholesale changes, and the likes of Sam Field and Claudio Jacob could be hoping for appearances in midfield, while Hal Robson-Kanu might be expecting to feature up front.

Expected lineups

Liverpool: Mignolet; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Moreno; Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain.

West Bromwich Albion: Foster; Dawson, Hegazi, McAuley, Gibbs; Phillips, Jacob, Livermore, McClean; Rodriguez, Rondon.

The visiting side’s prioritising of the league over the cup could work in their favour if new players come into the side with a point to prove. However, Liverpool have not lost two games in a row for exactly a year.

Seeing as it is also their best chance of lifting silverware this season, the Reds should be up for the game, and Anfield is always lively for an evening kick off, which should help the home side
